The World Forest Cup turns community tree planting into a shared competition.

Three Green MagazineOctober 29, 20263 min read

Kelty Trees is home to The World Forest Cup, where communities worldwide compete for tree-planting titles. The invitation is direct: ‘Grow your community's forest. Win the world.’

A person logs a tree, and that act belongs to a wider community competition. The project gives tree planting a shared context, connecting an individual contribution with the community taking part around it.

The competition has Local, Regional, National and World titles. That structure keeps several scales in view at once. A community can be part of its local setting while also appearing within a wider competition.

The titles do not turn the project into four separate programs; they are the levels of the same World Forest Cup. People log trees within that shared project, and leaderboards bring the competition into view.

Kelty Trees also has an impact page and a Hall of Fame. Alongside the leaderboards, those pages give visitors places to follow the project beyond the moment of logging a tree. Mark's line, ‘Restoration of the most rare resource in the universe,’ states the perspective behind the work.

The site brings that line together with a practical invitation to participate through tree planting, rather than leaving it as a standalone statement.

The venture is part of the Kelty family with Kelty Lawn Care and Kelty Designs. Kelty Lawn Care is based in River Forest, Illinois, and was established in 1984. That family connection places Kelty Trees alongside yard care and landscape design while keeping its own focus clear: The World Forest Cup and community tree planting.

In the Three Green magazine, readers can meet that project as one member of the wider family. On its own site, the next step is to log a tree and follow the community competition.
