The Craft Beneath Your Feet

Pavers, patios, and retaining walls: why hardscape is the quiet backbone of a great yard.

Grass gets the glory, but a yard lives or dies by its bones. Hardscape — the patios, walkways, and retaining walls that shape how a space is used — is where Kelty Lawn Care has quietly built its reputation over forty years of Chicagoland seasons.

The physics are unforgiving. Freeze-thaw cycles heave anything that was set shallow, so base preparation is everything: excavation depth, compacted gravel, proper drainage pitch. A paver patio done right is boring underneath — and that is exactly the point.

Good hardscape also changes how people use their land. A patio is an outdoor room; a walkway is an invitation. Multiply that across a neighborhood and landscaping stops being decoration and starts being community infrastructure — front-porch culture, built in stone.

That belief — greener, more connected communities, parcel by parcel — is what eventually grew Kelty Lawn Care into Kelty Designs and, beyond that, the whole Three Green family of projects.
